Luganville is the second biggest town in Vanuatu, the biggest in the northern chain of islands. We headed up north to this town as we hope to shelter from some bigger winds that are due for quite a few days. It was a very pleasant but gentle sail all the way up. The wind barely got above 10 knots, so we were going pretty slowly especially as we can’t use our bigger sails as the furler is broken. The repair part should have arrived in Port Vila, where we will return most probably at the end of the week. We were very envious of Alia Vita’s big spinnaker sail they got out.
Early afternoon we made it into the channels approaching Luganville. Rowan had organised for us to pick up a mooring ball at a dive centre, across the water from Luganville town. Rowan, Rob and Frances will all go and dive on the wreck of the SS Coolidge in the next few days. There are so few sailing cruisers around only two other boats here and they were in the anchorage in town. We got onto our mooring balls just before the heavens opened, at least it felt very secure and protected from the big blow.
We went to the Aore Island resort next door for supper, dodging rain showers, it is certainly the smartest place we have been to since arriving in Vanuatu. We had a delicious meal, the beef here is excellent.

Nice to see white beaches again
