Sunday 15 June - snorkelling among turtles

We decided to go further into the bay to do some snorkel spots. Sadly the visibility was not the best as the water was churned up. It looked like the coral was making a real come back and there were plenty of smaller fish about. We stopped a local boat passing by and asked where we should go, he suggested a nearby area with lots of turtles. He was quite right we saw at least 5 different turtles and one enormous one. We had a very funny time when Rob dived down to a bit of coral to flush out hundreds of little fish, he got the fright of his life when this enormous thing rushed out from under the coral. It was a big turtle, which gave Rob a huge fright. We are entering shark attack waters! We think the big head of coral may have been a cleaning station. It was covered in tiny fish.
We headed back to our boats around lunch time. The boat that directed us to the turtles came to trade fruit for petrol. Alia Vita gave them a proper English Tea! Rowan went and checked out the pass, as the visibility had not been good and the passes always have strong currents, I declined, as well as Alia Vita. He had to go on his own, the drop off was quite something he said, the turn in the tide made the water all stirred up. He saw loads of big fish, and kept a beady eye out for sharks, one of the shark attacks was just up the coast from here. Can't believe that when we get further north we have to contend with salt water crocodiles as well!
It was a glorious sunset, made all the better by all the kids phoning for a Happy Father's Day chat.

Plenty of turtles about
Rob gets a huge fright.....you must watch to the end to see his reaction!
